Food for Thought

These musings didn't quite fit in with the chronology of events at the Linn Creek Arts Festival, but I thought they were important enough to have their own post...

The woman in front of Michel in line for the caricatures was wearing a t-shirt from Mission Marshalltown, a cooperative service project sponsored by several churches in the area.  A Bible verse, James 1:27, was printed on the back:

This verse has been on my mind often this month, so I thought it was quite fitting to find it staring at me at the art festival.  God calls us to "look after orphans and widows in their distress."  In the United States, we don't stumble across orphans with much frequency in our everyday lives.  But is there more that we can do to support orphans in their distress?  Maybe it's a clothing drive for an orphanage overseas.  Maybe it's sponsoring a child through an organization like World Vision or Compassion International.  Or maybe, just maybe, God is calling you to bring an orphan into your home to help him/her experience the love of a family and realize dreams of the future.  What can you to do look after orphans and widows?
